The Body Balancing Clinic

Holistic Healing by Julie Dexter BTA

The Original Bowen Technique

A gentle form of body work in which very subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue send messages deep into the body, retrieving cellular memory of a relaxed, balanced way of well-being.

About me

My name is Julie Dexter and I live in Sandiacre, with my partner, daughter Jessie, and various animals!

I first came across the Bowen technique, through my love of animals when my lovely thoroughbred horse Squealy was having problems in her hind end. She couldn't move straight and was stressed from the obvious discomfort, which resulted. When the vet declared she couldn't find anything wrong, I started, with her permission to try complementary therapies. Over the next year or so we tried McTimoney chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Accupuncture, Spiritual healing and Shiatsu. All fine therapies, but none of them showing any major lasting differences for Squealy.

Finally the Shiatsu lady mentioned that 'Bowen is good'.
Having never heard of the therapy myself, I did some research and found out that the horse Bowen is called Equine Muscle Release Therapy. I found my local practioner, Sally Coton and called her out. Well after just 4 treatments,Squealy was straight and sound, with a calmer temperament to match, and whats more the changes lasted, she didn't need to keep having treatments.

I was blown away by how this gentle therapy succeeded where all else had failed, and resolved to train in it myself.
However, I soon found out that due to illness of the instructor the course would not be running for a couple of years, and also I was expected to learn the human B.T. as well. So the next 2 years were spent training in human Bowen, doing case studies and studying for the required Anatomy and Physiology qualification all alongside a full time job!

Although, at first due to a natural shyness with people, I was wary of treating humans. I was very soon won over, just by the results I was seeing and the wonderful feeling you get when you have helped someone.

My constant thirst for knowledge over the last few years has led me to train in other therapies such as Crystal Healing, Quantum Touch, Indian Head Massage and Hopi ear candling (I had already been attuned to Reike). However, although I have learned a lot and grown in confidence from doing these therapies, Bowen is my treatment of choice for almost everything as it is just so effective.
It stands head and shoulders above any other therapy I have come across.
2006 saw me training in Cat and Canine Muscle Release, as a preparation for the Equine course finally due to start in May 07.
Also in this year I undertook training in the management and treatment of stroke and M.E. patients.
Finally, October of this year saw me graduate in E.M.R.T.

I now spend my time treating people from a separate room at my home, as well as travelling out to horses, cats and dogs.
I can also visit to treat people in their homes if required.

My training continues in the form of continuing professional development courses in both Bowen and E.M.R.T., taken regularly. The thirst for knowledge is as strong as ever, as I feel I have at last, (after 40 years of looking!) found my lifes purpose-to help people and animals back to health using this fabulous therapy.
